The leather animal series was produced in the 1960s by DERU, a German workshop that existed from 1950 to the early 1970s.
The workshop began by manufacturing leather toys as teaching materials for German schools in the 1950s, and in the 1960s, it started producing these intricately constructed animals.
The "DERU" animals, crafted from a single piece of undyed leather using exceptional techniques of cutting, bending, pressing, and riveting, were later re-evaluated for their charm long after the workshop ceased to exist. They became collectible items, affectionately known as "German ORIGAMI," with collectors found worldwide.
