H&M will open a new store in Ikebukuro on March 1st, featuring upcycled furniture made from discarded clothing.
H&M will open a new store in Ikebukuro on March 1st, featuring upcycled furniture made from discarded clothing.
As a new attempt, the store will introduce fixtures made of PANECO, a recycled fiber board. All of the Paneco fixtures to be installed in the Ikebukuro store will be made from discarded clothing generated within H&M Japan.
In addition, the Ikebukuro store has switched to LED lighting throughout the sales floor, reducing energy consumption by up to 50% compared to the previous system. In order to improve air pollution and air quality in the store, the company will use paints for walls and other surfaces that contain less than 1% of volatile organic compounds.
The company will also introduce a used clothing collection service, which is currently being implemented in all stores in Japan.
